Brighton art-rockers Flip Top Head have returned with their new single, ‘Trilateral Machine’. As usual, the track is a maze of detail and eclecticism. There are jumps from maximalist art rock topped with operatic vocals, all the way back down to intricately composed baroque-folk moments. There are very few bands creating music tapestries this complex. The band explain: “Like many Flip Top Head songs, the sonic elements and lyrics came together separately from one another; evolving over time, until being soldered together like some sort of machine. Meaning is left open to interpretation, with the machine in question being a metaphor for whatever crutches we lean on in life to achieve the things we want to. The message, we hope, is one of empowerment- in overcoming unexpected obstacles and finding comfort along the way.” The band are due to release an EP, also called Trilateral Machine, on January 23rd, 2025, via Blitzcat Records. -Dan Peeke
